Message from our patron Catherine Freeman Foundation

"Each day should be a gold medal day for all kids, not just those of privilege.”

Cottage by theSea is a place where children are given new opportunities to become winners. I want to be part of this, and it is the reason why I accepted the position of Patron.

"My role as Patron not only gives me a chance to assist the Cottage in raising much needed funds, but more importantly, allows me to meet, laugh, play and generally have fun and interact with many of the children who attend camps at Cottage by the Sea."

We thank Cathy for becoming our patron and we look forward to every visit she makes to The Cottage.

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you how much I have enjoyed being Patron of Cottage by the Sea and just a few of the things I have been involved with and attended over the past twelve months:

  • Chamber of Commerce in Geelong where 370 people representing businesses in the Geelong area attended a great evening – this event raised $30,000.
  • Barwon Grove Golf Club charity auction day – we all enjoyed lunch, including kids from the camp, and with the support from the Golf Club community, raised $25,000.
  • A day at the footy - Geelong vs Melbourne – the Geelong Football Club, in front of 23,000 people, where I had the privilege of tossing the coin, followed by one of the kids from the camp, in Geelong colours, ran onto the ground and then the game commenced. This provided great exposure as Cottage by the Sea was mentioned over the P.A. system and I was later interviewed by Triple M and K Rock.
  • Geelong Community Foundation presented a $10,000 cheque – I enjoyed speaking to this group and three of the Cottage children attended.
  • I participated in a tour of the MCG as a fundraiser for the Cottage – we received a presentation/tour by the Project Team. It gave the Cottage the chance of good exposure on Channel 7 News and in print.
  • It was nice to mingle and meet people who attended the ACAA (Australian Contemporary Aboriginal Art) evening. It gave me a chance to meet Gabriella Possum whose painting was auctioned to raise funds on the night. I also met participants from Working for the Dole program; saw the great graphic/promotional material the guys/girls are creating for the Cottage.
  • Lots of ‘behind the scenes’ visits – one to Korowa Anglican Girls’ School who presented me with baskets of chocolates and a cheque. Of course I knew who would enjoy these – Cottage kids.
As you can see it has been a busy year but I hope the Cottage and all the children have enjoyed the benefits that I, in my own small way, can help to provide.
