Donate to Kids Charity

How can you Donate?

You can help Tony and David in their surf quest by making a 'tax deductible' donation to Cottage by the Sea or you can offer other ‘in kind’ support/sponsorship to help them out as they travel around the country e.g. accommodation, transport or equipment.

A message from Cathy Freeman

Dear Potential ‘Surf for Kids Campaign’ Supporter

It's Cathy Freeman here and I'm seeking your support. As you may know already, over 900 underprivileged children experience a wonderful, much needed holiday every year at Cottage by the Sea in Queenscliff.

We do not receive any Government funding and rely heavily on community generosity and support to ensure this valuable service continues.

The Surf for Kid’s Campaign - in essence we are aiming to enhance awareness of our charity and raise sufficient donations to enable an additional 100 needy children from around Australia to enjoy a much needed holiday.

As Patron of Cottage by the Sea I would like to thank you ‘in advance’ for your much valued consideration and potential donation, we certainly appreciate your support.

Campaign Outline

The General Manager of Cottage by the Sea, Tony Featherston along with his surfing partner David Smith, are embarking on a ‘personal and voluntary' fundraising and profile raising surf campaign in aid of the Cottage.

The aim is to surf 100 hundred locations over 100 or more weekends raising enough money to fund a holiday of a lifetime for an additional 100 needy children from around Australia. With ongoing publicity reports and updates in the media and on the internet.

Objectives of the Campaign:

  • to raise the profile of Cottage by the Sea in the wider Victorian and Australian community
  • to raise money to enable 100 more needy children to enjoy a ‘first time’ holiday
  • to create opportunities placing Cottage b y the Sea in the media
How will it work?

Tony and David will participate on a totally voluntary basis in their own time. This is why the campaign will run for 100 weeks or more because it’s all happening on weekends and during annual leave periods. To successfully complete the task, they will need to surf the location for a minimum of one hundred minutes catching at least 10 waves in the process. They would like to surf some locations with local celebrities to enhance the chances of gaining publicity and awareness of the campaign.

Locations

100 locations have been identified from surfing locations around Australia along with a few in Bali as this is a planned holiday destination of Tony and David’s in 2007.

  • Victoria – 38
  • New South Wales – 21
  • South Australia -12
  • Western Australia – 8
  • Queensland – 15
  • Bali - 6
Charity Surf Day

The campaign will be launched with a special charity surf day with children from the Cottage will be held on Saturday 9th of December with a host of celebrities (including Cathy Freeman) attending.

Celebrities will form teams with the Cottage children for a fun filled surfing competition.
