Annual Boardriders Surf Day!

Our Stories

Our Annual Boardriders Surf Day didn’t begin as planned. We had thunder and lightning rolling through Geelong and the Surf Coast, with flash flood warnings. This meant we had to switch up the morning and head for BOUNCE, which was a great alternative to keep indoors out of the storm.

Our lunch was hosted above the Boardriders store at 4Pines restaurant, where we all sat down to enjoy an amazing feed together and met the volunteers for the day. The children loved the burgers and chips for lunch and were raring to get into the water once finished. The sun poked out and we hit 24 degrees as we were setting up for the surf session. A quick lesson on the beach from the Cottage crew and we were in the water practising our newly learned skills. The Boardriders team all jumped in and shared their knowledge with the children, giving them some good tips and pointers along with helping push them onto some of the better waves. Just about all the children were able to stand up on the board or belly ride the waves all the way into shore. They all had a heap of fun!

After our surf session, we all gathered together for a final goodbye and to say thank you. Our two leading school captains stood up and thanked the Boardriders team for such an amazing experience. The Boardriders team then presented each child with a gift pack full of goodies, including a beach towel, bag and hat. Before we left, all of the children went up to each volunteer and shook their hand or gave them a fist bump to say thank you for all the help.

It was a successful day and we are already looking forward to next year’s event. Thank you, Boardriders!
