Best week ever

Our Stories

We woke up bright and early and met at school where the bus was coming to get us for long trip down to the coast to spend a week at Cottage by the Sea. As we arrived at the Cottage, all the staff and their huge smiles greeted us ready for an awesome week at camp! We took our bags upstairs and were shown to our rooms were our beds were set up for us with gifts of knitted goods for the week! We then did a grand tour of the cottage and all came together as one big group to do a camp agreement where we discussed our goals, guidelines and expectations for the week at camp. For lunch, we had delicious homemade soup and toasties to warm up our bellies before a big afternoon of activities. After lunch my group went to a place called Barwon Heads where we went rock pool rambling and explored the local beaches and wildlife! It was so much fun I found three huge crabs and we even found a huge elephant snail! We had some delicious afternoon tea and then headed to a park and playground to run around and get rid of some energy before dinner! What a fun day and it was only day 1! After dinner, we had a relaxing night and plenty of sleep to make sure we were ready and energised for day 2 of camp!

We woke up early, excited to see what was planned for day 2 of camp! I was so excited to go swimming at the beach! After breakfast we went outside and had some free time, I found treasure in the sandpit and smashed the staff at basketball. We were split into our groups, headed off for our morning activities, my group was swimming so we had to get sized up for wetsuits and shown how to put the wetsuits on. The staff taught us about how the wetsuits work and why we wear them in the water. After getting our wetsuits on we made our way down to the basketball court for a game of dye dodgeball! My team won and I got all the staff with the coloured dye, I could not stop laughing! The water at the beach was beautiful and the waves were so much fun to play in! we headed back to the cottage to wash our wetsuits and have some lunch. After lunch we split back up into our groups and my group was doing the low ropes course, it was so challenging but so fun! I fell off so many times but my teammates were all there to help me through it. We then went for a beach walk on the way to the marine and freshwater discovery centre! The marine and freshwater discovery centre was awesome! I learnt so much about the marine life, my favourite was the giant rock lobster hiding under the rock. We headed back to the cottage, had some dinner and settled in for a relaxing night.

Day 3 started with my group heading down to point Lonsdale to explore the lighthouse and rock pools! We saw the old war bunkers, we even had the chance to go inside one of them. After a nice morning in the sun exploring, we headed back for lunch and to get ready for surfing in the afternoon. I could not wait, I had never been surfing before and I was so excited to try to stand up! The waves were perfect and the staff were so helpful making sure they taught us the best way to stand up and helped push us onto the waves making sure we had enough speed to catch the waves! It was my favourite activity for the camp, I did not want to leave! We headed back to cottage for dinner and another relaxing night, what a day!

It was the last day of camp and we were all excited to go home but we also did not want to leave camp! We headed down to the Queenscliff marina where we went to the top of the 360Q lookout tower, went shrimping and even spotted some huge stingrays! They were bigger than me! After our morning at the marina we packed our bags on the bus, had our last lunch at the cottage and headed back to school, it was the most amazing week at cottage by the sea and I cannot wait to come back next time!
