Cottage by the Sea remote programs

Our Stories

During COVID-19 restrictions, Cottage by the Sea has stayed socially connected with the children.

Through the pandemic, our Programs Team have been on a sharp learning curve as they explore new ways to deliver programs to children during times of social distancing. The team continued to connect with participants who have been unable to attend onsite, providing them with regular challenges to move outside their comfort zones; mindfulness activities to support their emotional wellbeing; and, crafty tasks to inspire creative minds.

In our Zoom sessions, children have met with a number of special guests who have shared their personal stories of adversity, resilience and hope.

Robin Moore is an Emergency Room doctor who lives in Florida and has an amazing life story. As well as international medical aid work, Robin is continuously challenging herself physically with everything from Ironman competitions, to circus skills, to hang gliding. In particular, she spoke to our children about climbing Mount Everest, the years of training, the physical as well as mental challenges of the climb itself.

Cottage by the Sea Ambassador, Warren Davies “The Unbreakable Farmer” ran a workshop with our Mentors based on the Love me Love You program he works with.  This session focussed on three core components – Control, Gratitude and Mindfulness.

The Programs Team sent out more than 1000 activity booklets to children who attended Take a Break programs at Cottage last year. These booklets have been received with enthusiasm by parents and children alike. They are packed with activities to supplement the children’s schooling, focussing on fun and wellbeing, while reconnecting children with happy memories of their stay at Cottage by the Sea.
