Foundation for a brighter future

Capital Works

To continue Capital Works at the Cottage, building contractors on site have boosted their site safety procedures to comply with strict social distancing practices and increased hygiene procedures.  And while we are saddened to have postponed children’s programs in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are pleased that contractors can keep working to make our Cottage better and to keep their families fed.

In preparation for the striking double storey deck that will take in some of the most outstanding views of Port Phillip Bay Heads, the concrete foundations and lower walls of reclaimed red brick have been constructed.  This downstairs area will provide storage as well as modern change room facilities for the children.  While above, we look forward to a glass enclosed dining area and multi-purpose activity areas to inspire generations of children.

Internally work has pressed on at an amazing pace.  We now have space for the lift shaft, a new front doorway has been made, walls have been removed for the new foyer that will house a spiral slide from the upstairs dormitories, the children’s bathrooms have been gutted in preparation for brand new and accessible facilities.

We are ever thankful, especially at this time, that we are able to breathe new life into the Cottage.  This capital works project has been made possible through generous donations from our community as well as funding from the Australian Government through the Building Better Regions Fund.  This one-time grant will be directed to the Major Capital Works project only. It does not contribute to funding children’s programs.

As the modernised Cottage emerges, we will continue to keep you updated on progress.  More than anything, we look forward to being able to open our new front door to the children who need us most, to offer them inspiration, fun and opportunity after this period of isolation and anxiety.

Would you like to help?

Last year, more than 1,400 children were inspired, had fun and accessed new opportunities through our children’s programs. As Cottage by the Sea programs receive no government funding, we rely on the generosity of corporate sponsors, individual donations and contributions.
