Fun times to end the year

Our Stories

Our final camp of the year meant it was time to see our mentors for one last time for 2021. The lucky mentors had a choice between spending time at the cottage or sitting on a yacht in the Gippsland lakes.

Tuesday morning came and all three buses went out to pick up the excited mentors. The cottage based camp was focused on community and what it means to us and them. We spent our time volunteering at Jirrahlinga, a local wildlife park in Barwon Heads. They showed us how to care for the animals and we repaid the favour by helping getting the enclosures ready.

The mentors really enjoyed getting up close and personal with the animals. Even though there were a few frightful smiles, the clear favourite was the snake!

We continued the fun and soaked up the sun by hopping in and on the water with a mix of swimming, stand up paddle boarding and even had time to canoe.

As the night came the excitement didn’t stop, we headed to Ocean Grove to enjoy the sunset followed by a little drive around trying to find the biggest and brightest Christmas lights.

Friday came and the lucky mentors even got a visit from Santa overnight and woke up to presents by their beds. An early Christmas lunch filled their bellies and it was time to hope on the bus and head back to enjoy the rest of the summer holidays.
