Going down to the Riptide

Our Stories

It was a very happy hump-day for Cottage as 10 children from Geelong East Primary School joined us for some fun on a short but awesome three-day camp, which was held at our Riptide Cottage!

The morning started out with a bus ride from Geelong East back to Queenscliff, followed by a short tour of our grounds and a friendly meet and greet with all the awesome Cottage staff. After enjoying some delicious fruit and some of Mel’s famous hedgehog slice, the children were bouncing with joy and it was time to get them out and about exploring with us!

With adventure beaming just around the corner from the Cottage, we were headed in the direction of Point Lonsdale. Walking around the cliff tops, playing in the sand and running laps around the magic lighthouse to make a wish, really filled these children with laughter and smiles! However, after watching a fisherman catch his lunch for the day along the pier, we all realised that we were pretty hungry ourselves, so sure enough, it was time to head back to the Cottage for our very own lunch!

The afternoon involved a peaceful stroll around the Queenscliff Marina, looking for stingrays and fish below the boardwalk and playing in the local park. At night time, the children ventured off in the dark to find the old war bunker before watching a movie and resting up for their big swim in the ocean the next day.

Along with swimming, the children also had the opportunity to visit the Barwon Heads Bluff and spread themselves amongst the rock-pools, on the hunt for all types of critters! That evening the ten kids and staff walked to the oval for a quick kick of the footy before settling in back at Riptide.
