Host a Christmas FUNdraiser

News Updates

Christmas can leave us feeling a tad greedy after overindulging for days on end. It usually leaves us slightly heavier and our pockets a whole lot emptier. Feasting and gifting is nothing to feel guilty about! However, there are many ways you can pass on the enjoyment you feel at this time of year to those who do not have the same opportunities to have a fun-filled Christmas.

This year, get into the spirit of the festive season – the season of giving. Integrate some good will to give a little back. A great way to make the most of Christmas this year – Host a fundraiser for a charitable cause.

Whether you run a business or want to host your own, fundraisers are super important to charities like Cottage by the Sea, whose sole vision is to assist in providing a happy childhood for all. Need some fundraising ideas? Here’s some inspiration to get you going.

Combine your health with fundraising

Set up a fundraiser based around your physical feats! For example, set a distance goal on a treadmill over a period of time, and encourage people to donate accordingly. The benefits? You ready your body for the impending Christmas feasts while raising much-needed funds for a cause.

Run a local gym? Facilitate a Christmas tree challenge and present pledge drive! Getting creative can result in your clients being more active at the gym and in donating.

Kris Kringle for kids –

KK’s are one of the most popular Christmas activities among families, friends, and work colleagues. This year, instead of giving KK presents directly to each other, hand over a donation, toys, or a list of items for your KK to collect and deliver to your selected charity. Children’s charities like Cottage by the Sea work tirelessly during the busy holiday season to provide a merry Christmas for less fortunate children, and all community help is appreciated.

Cocktails for Charity –

Get a head start and kick off Christmas celebrations early. Organise a Christmas and party in the name of a charitable cause. This is the perfect way to bring in the festive season, unwind with a few drinks, and feel good about making a difference in other people’s lives.

And for businesses? It’s the season for end of year work parties. Why not host one in the name of a good cause? Team bonding? Tick. Corporate social responsibility? Tick.

Dress up and donate –

Want to make a statement? Gather as many people as you can, decked out in matching Santa/elf outfits. We’ll let you come up with the rest. Fun run? Movie night?

The options are endless. Simply incorporating a charitable aspect to your regular Christmas season activities makes the best time of year even better – for you and the people your efforts will help. There’s no right or wrong way to fundraise – the end goal is the same (but it helps if it’s fun). At the end of the day, giving the gift of Christmas to someone less fortunate will enrich your own festive season.

Last year, more than 1,400 children were inspired, had fun and accessed new opportunities through our children’s programs. As Cottage by the Sea programs receive no government funding, we rely on the generosity of corporate sponsors, individual donations and contributions.
