New Friends before Summer Ends

Our Stories

Our young partnership with Bethany Community Support has blossomed and we always look forward to camps with the kids recommended by this incredible organisation.

This week’s camp was being hosted in our Riptide Cottage, our facility used to accommodate for smaller groups. After setting up the beds with the usual teddy bear and knitted goods, we jumped on the bus and collected the nine children from Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula. After arriving back at Cottage by the Sea, we dove into some tasty ham and cheese toasties.

Usually the kids who come to Cottage come from the same school and therefore already know each other allowing us to get into activities straight away. Though as these kids were from schools all around the region we kicked off the camp with a few “get to know you games”. This was a unique experience for the kids to jump out of their comfort zone and make new friends.

The kids were gifted with some amazing weather for the week and so there was no better place to head than the beach! Whether we were having a swim or paddle board at the Cottage Beach or boogie boarding at Ocean Grove, we were surrounded with smiles and laughter.

Initiative activities such as the low-ropes course helped to build positive, trusting relationships between the children and as always, the Marine Discovery Centre had the kids asking question after question.

It was a fantastic week with an inspirational group of kids and we are already looking forward to hanging out with the next group of kids that the kind people at Bethany recommend.
