Selma, a “Cottage Veteran” on Take a Break!

Our Stories

We kicked off February with a Take a Break program for students and teachers from Thomastown West Primary School. Selma, the school’s PE Teacher and Camp Co-Ordinator, could be classed as a “Cottage Veteran”, having now attended Cottage every year with her students since 2009 (with the exception of COVID and renovations). “The children we have at our school are mostly from migrant backgrounds. A lot of refugee children who don’t get the experience to come on a school camp. There are at least 4 or 5 children who haven’t been to the ocean before or experienced anything like this,” explained Selma. It is always a highlight for everyone seeing the smiles on the faces of the children as they have fun jumping through the waves.

“This is one camp [Cottage by the Sea] I have no trouble finding staff to put their hand up to attend. When I write the camp up on the board and I need staff to attend the camp, nearly everyone will put their name down for this camp. We love the experience and it’s something we look forward to and it’s always in our calendar to come to Cottage by the Sea now in February,” said Selma. We are so grateful to have forged such strong relationships with amazing teachers and school leaders like Selma who are integral to creating so many happy life time memories of Cottage by the Sea for children from their school over many years.
