Leaving a gift in your Will is a unique way of supporting Cottage by the Sea, without impacting on your present income or bank balance. It allows you to leave a legacy of money, property, shares or goods beyond your lifetime.

The amount you decide to leave can be as much or as little as you want, but the difference you can make in the lives of children attending Cottage by the Sea will be forever.

The difference your gift makes

In 2012, the Board of Cottage by the Sea made a strategic decision to establish a Foundation following the receipt of several significant bequests. These generous gifts were carefully invested to protect and provide for the future security of the Cottage.

The annual interest earned (or part thereof) on the investment is used to support current activities. If you choose to support us in this way, your generous gift will keep on giving by providing the financial security for the Cottage to continue making a positive difference to the lives of disadvantaged and at-risk children for generations to come.

“I used to struggle working in teams and making friends. I have really benefited from the support and the new opportunities provided. It has not just been the physical activities I have enjoyed but the team building, learning to share, communication skills and learning to listen to others.”

(Hamish age 11, Take a Break Program participant 2018)

What happens if you don’t have a Will?

If you pass away without having a Will your estate will be distributed according to the Administration and Probate Act that applies in your State or Territory. By having a Will drawn up your wishes for the distribution of your estate will be carried out.

Making or changing your Will ?

Making or changing your Will to include a gift to the Cottage by the Sea could be as simple as contacting your legal advisor and they will do all the important work for you. Alternatively, you could use an online option to create a simple Will. Cottage by the Sea has partnered with Gathered Here, an online Wills and Estates law firm, who host a free and easy step-by-step online Will writing service. It takes less than 10 minutes  Write your free Will now.

“I’ve changed a lot since doing this program. I used to be shy and not get heard. I have learnt my opinion is valued and that has given me more confidence to express my thoughts. I now have a wide variety of friends and talk to new people.”

(Abby, age 14, Mentor Program participant 2017)

Five simple steps to making a difference in a child’s life forever

Step 1: If you do not have a Will, you will need to contact a solicitor about creating one.
Step 2: If you already have a Will, then all you need to do is add a codicil – a short legal amendment to your existing Will. Thankfully, this is neither difficult nor expensive.
Step 3: Decide on what type of gift you would like to leave.
Step 4: Discuss your wishes with your family to ensure that the reasons for your decision are understood. Wills can often be contested so it is important the right steps are in place.
Step 5: Notify Cottage by the Sea regarding your intentions so we can recognise you accordingly. We will always respect your confidentiality and privacy.
