The fruits of Cottage by the Sea’s labour, many years on

Our Stories

Earlier this year, Ken and his partner Carmel popped in to Cottage by the Sea all the way from Western Australia. Ken and his late older brother Gary stayed at Cottage roughly 60 years ago, when Ken was around 10 years old. Woven from the same cloth, these brothers share a tie with many other children who have experienced the inspiration, fun and opportunity of an experience at Cottage by the Sea.

Ken’s strongest memory from Cottage was trying rhubarb for the first time. He remembers having rhubarb custard for dessert all those years ago. This memory lives on in Ken and Carmel’s garden at home, where they grow rhubarb.

While on holiday here in Queenscliff, Ken wanted to show his wife where he experienced some of his best memories – here at Cottage. As he admired the grounds overlooking the sea, he remembered that all they did was play in this outdoor area.

Ken said to Cottage CEO Adam that he has had a successful life and, as a way to say thank you, has decided to make an annual donation to Cottage. This symbiotic form of generosity will enable more children the chance to make treasured, lifelong memories at Cottage – just like Ken.
