Cottage by the Sea is a not-for-profit Australian children’s charity helping more kids lead happy, healthy lives.
All children and young people deserve opportunities to have fun, be inspired and broaden their horizons. Unfortunately, many don’t have access to such opportunities.
Cottage by the Sea aims to address this issue by providing a safe, supportive environment for children to have fun and be inspired.
Founded in 1890 in Queenscliff, Victoria, Cottage by the Sea provides tailored camp programs within a holiday environment. During their camp experience, children have numerous opportunities to have fun, build positive relationships with peers as well as adult role models.
Whatever the program, Take a Break, REEF, Mentor or National participants are encouraged to have fun, take risks and explore options in a safe and supportive setting. We seek to assist young people to develop self-awareness, confidence and resilience, inspiring them to remain engaged in education, family and their community. This increased happiness and improved engagement benefits families, school communities and ultimately our society as a whole.
During their days at Cottage by the Sea, children are kept active and occupied. They visit the beach and many local tourist attractions in and around Queenscliff such as the Marine and Freshwater Discovery Centre, Point Lonsdale Lighthouse and Queenscliff Harbour. Participants take part in various outdoor activities, including: beach games, swimming, surfing, paddle boarding, canoeing, rockpool rambling and bike riding as well as indoor activities such as art, craft, cooking, music and drama. Some camps are also held offsite in a variety of new environments. Strong emphasis is placed on co-operation, teamwork and respect for self, others and the environment.
