Cottage by the Sea’s longstanding community partnership with Port Phillip Sea Pilots

News Updates

Cottage by the Sea (CBTS) is very proud of its longstanding community partnership with Port Phillip Sea Pilots (PPSP), an organisation that has been operating since 1839 – not far off 200 years. In addition to collaborating with us on community events, such as last year’s Melbourne Cup Tour of Queenscliff, PPSP also supports CBTS in other ways.

PPSP Managing Director Captain Mike Hanson and PPSP Director Captain Damian Laughlin are two of PPSP’s pilots who were invited to be guest speakers at a Bellarine Women’s Network event. They took a couple of boxes of Brendan Moloney’s fantastic book Pilot on Board, which was published in 2020 to celebrate the 175th anniversary of Port Philip Sea Pilots.

The ladies purchased 18 of the books, totalling $720. Mike and Damian informed the ladies on the evening that the funds would be donated to CBTS. PPSP Chairman Captain Mathew Close is pictured here with CBTS CEO Adam Wake, handing over the funds in one of the books.

Thank you PPSP for your generosity. Both of our organisations date back to the 19th century – CBTS 1890 and PPSP 1839 – and we look forward to supporting our community together for many years to come.
