Meet our new patron, Rebecca Maddern

News Updates

Media personality Rebecca Maddern has been announced as the new Patron of children’s charity Cottage by the Sea. She replaces Frank Costa AO, who was Patron from 2014 until his passing in May 2021.

Cottage by the Sea CEO Adam Wake said Rebecca Maddern was an obvious choice for the role and that we are all very excited about her appointment.

“We knew it was going to be a challenge to appoint a new Patron, after the years of outstanding support we received from Frank, and prior to Frank, Cathy Freeman – Patron for 10-years” he said. “We’re delighted that Rebecca has shown such strong support for our work and we look forward to a long association.”

Rebecca Maddern will join fellow ambassadors and supporters to promote Cottage by the Sea’s Giving Day on Thursday, March 3. On the day, all donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar by generous matching donors.

Mr Wake said this year’s Giving Day is more important than ever and has a theme of together we can help more kids.

“Over the past two years, almost all of our fundraising events have been postponed or cancelled, including our annual fair in January. Giving Day will help us raise the money we need to run our programs.

“While we’ve struggled to hold events, many families in our community have been struggling with so much more. It goes without saying, that with more children in need of Cottage by the Sea, there is an increased cost.

“Our aim is that no child is left behind and we’ll keep working hard to provide opportunities and continue the focus that has been our mission for 132 years.”
